The church was built approximately 30 years ago and was extensively renovated in 2003. Plans are now underway for further major refurbishment which will commence early in 2008. These plans included the conversion of the front veranda to a glassed-in atrium which is now completed. Plans for the parish centre and administration building are with Council. The zoning has been changed which added to the delay. But all is now approved and the timetable for building is being drawn up,
There are also plans prepared for a long-awaited Child Care Centre which will be built in the grounds of St Gerard's and operated by Centacare. These plans include rebuilding the car park and a bell tower.
The parish also boasts a community hall and tennis court, both of which are very popular and well patronised.
St Gerard Majella is a vibrant parish to say the very least. Lead by Father Gerard, the parish community is nothing less than extraordinary. Many of the parishioners of long standing, actually worked together to build the church, presbytery and hall and thirty years down the track, most of them are still living in the parish and are still very committed to the many projects that are undertaken here today. Finding people to help out is not a problem at St Gerard's as so many of our people are only too willing to put up their hands when volunteers are required. The parish is truly blessed to have amongst its community an abundance of talent, most of which is tapped and used continually. The greatest talent however, lies within the hearts of our people who seem to know how to make every voluntary task enjoyable. Whether they are preparing for the Jumble Sale, the Melbourne Cup Luncheon, the St Paddy's Dance, the monthly cake stall or the Christmas festival etc., they have a lot of fun along the way.
Newcomers are always made very welcome here at St Gerard Majella, so if you're new to the parish please make yourselves known to us by writing your name in the book provided at the back of the church or call into the Parish Office during office hours (9-5) Monday to Friday and introduce yourselves to Father Gerard or Kate, our Parish Manager.
